Compared with JP SOL Extreme, European Extreme gives players half the Life Bar, half the weapon ammo capacity, no rations, enemy vision is twice as good, wake up in half the time, and does more damage to the player with their attacks.

The game difficulty of Japanese PS2 Substance is the same as the US Xbox Substance.

SNAKE TALES ----------------------------------------- VR MISSIONS VR background color changes according to the PS2 internal clock. When playing as MGS1 Solid Snake, the music from MGS1 VR Missions is played. This VR walkthrough is written based on Snake's missions, but the VR Mission stages are similar for all the characters, so to avoid becoming too repetative, I did not write about all the characters' missions individually. Different characters come with character specific differences such as different initially equipped weapons (Snake has USP, Raiden has Socom, Ninja has HF Blade, etc.), and stage difficulty differences such as slightly different numbers of targets in Weapon Mode. Sneaking Mode - Sneaking Level 1 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:00 Enemy - 1 There are 2 holes in front of the enemy soldier. You are less likely to be seen if you stand flat against the wall. Level 2 Initial Equipment - none Tme Limit - 2:00 Enemy - 4 Be mindful of the routes of the enemies. Quickly move to the bottom right. The enemy in front of you will move to the left. Wait for the enemy near the goal to turn his back, then roll and knock him down and reach the goal. Level 3 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:20 Enemy - 4 Move according to the movements of the enemies. Enter the hole near the enemy closest to you, exit from the North, enter the hole there again and approach the goal. Be careful to exit only after the enemies have passed. Level 4 Initial Equipment - Magazine x10 Time Limit - 2:20 Enemy - 4 Attract the enemies' attention and change their routes to create a path for yourself. In other words, knock on walls and use magazines. Make them go one way while you go another. You will have to either kill or faint the enemy near the goal. Level 5 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 5 Elude to pass by the enemies without being noticed. From the middle right, elude and hang and move forward. When the enemy near the goal turns his back, get back up and roll and knock him down, then go for the goal. Level 6 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 4 Be careful not to make sound when walking or leave footprints on the floor. Also be careful of floor trap holes. First step on sound making floors to attract the enemy's attention. Then cross the trap floor and go up. To the right are sound floor and enemy. The enemy is surveying top and bottom alternatingly. When he's looking down, roll across the sound floor and immediately crawl toward the right. Wait till the enemy there to look down, then head for the goal. Level 7 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 4 Make use of the lockers. Immediately hide the fainted enemy into a locker, if he wakes up, the mission fails. Follow the 2 enemies, when they turn right, go down. Hide in the locker at the bottom right. When the enemy near the goal turns his back, roll and knock him out and head for the goal. Level 8 Initial Equipment - M9 x16, USP x16 Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 4 Beware of camera surveillance. Go up the stairs from the right. If you move quickly you will just avoid the camera's view. Shoot the enemy ahead with the M9. Shoot the enemy near the goal with the M9. Level 9 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 5:00 Enemy - 4 Pick up the book and cardboard box. Make use of the items to reach the goal. Level 10 Initial Equipment - Magazine x10 Time Limit - 4:00 Enemy - 6 Make use of all the skills you've mastered to reach the goal. --- Sneaking Mode - Eliminate All Level 1 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:00 Enemy - 1 Eliminate the enemy without being seen, and then go for the goal. You can either kill him, make him faint, or make him sleep. Wait for the enemy to turn his back. Pick up the M9, there's no time to aim with first person view, just shoot him then immediately roll and knock him over and he will fall asleep right away. Head for the goal. Level 2 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:00 Enemy - 4 Just eliminate them all, then head for the goal. Level 3 Initial Equipment - none Time Limit - 2:20 Enemy - 4 Aim for the head, heart, or crotch to take them out with one shot. First get the M9 at the bottom left. Go upward without being seen by the enemy to the right. Shoot the enemy at the top left. Shoot the nearby enemy. Shoot the enemy to the far right. Approach the remaining enemy, he should be moving away from you, take him out with one shot. Head for the goal. Level 4 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 2:20 Enemy - 4 Distract the enemy with items or by knocking on the wall or shooting the wall. Eliminate all the enemies then head for the goal. Level 5 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 5 Knock out enemies by elude drop and elude return. Level 6 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 4 Be careful of sound floors, wet floors, and trap floors. First step on the sound floor nearby to attract the enemy to the right. Go upward. When the enemy goes left, cross the trap floor and get the M9. Shoot the enemy behind you. Shoot the top left enemy. Move right, shoot the enemy on the top. Take out the last enemy when his back is turned. Head for the goal. Level 7 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 4 Figure out the positions of the enemies, and take each one out accordingly. If you shoot an enemy without killing him, you will enter Alert Mode and the attack team will apear, so be careful, if you shoot, shoot to kill. Shoot the enemy at the end. Shoot the enemy below. Quickly shoot the enemy near him. Move to the top right, shoot the enemy near the goal. Go to the goal. Level 9 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 5:00 Enemy - 4 Make use of items to distract the enemies, then eliminate them all and head for the goal. Level 10 Initial Equipment - USP Time Limit - 2:40 Enemy - 5 Make use of all the skills you've mastered to eliminate all the enemies and reach the goal. Shoot the enemy to the far left. Quickly go up the nearby stairs at the bottom left of map. Shoot the enemy at the end of the second floor. Shoot the enemy you can see in the floor below. Move forward and stop right in front of the sound floor. Shoot the enemy you can see to the bottom of map. Go down the stair to the right of map. Hold up the enemy near the goal from behind, then shoot him. Shoot the enemy ahead. Goal. All the above must be one shot kills, if you wasted even one bullet it won't work. ----- Weapon Mode Shoot the center of targets to get higher points. Consecutively destroy targets before the points disappear for the previous target to get bonus points. Shoot the orange targets that explode to instantly take out all the targets surrounding it. But be careful when they are too close to you, their explosion can hurt you. Don't shoot the red targets, they take away points. Weapon Mode - Hand Gun Level 1, 1:00, 12 targets. Stand on top of the crates to reach the bomb. 2) Room with the 2 gun-cameras, inside the duct on the right wall. 3) Top right of the entire area, attached under the box on the wall. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 2 1) Right building, middle level, attached to the side of the walkway, visible from the staircase between the lower and middle level. 2) Left building, upper level, attached to the wall right in front of the door connecting to Deck 2. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Stomach, under the small monitor stand facing the torture machine. 2) Jejunim, on top of the big crate at the end of the hall. Reach it from the upper level walkway. 3) Ascending Colon, on the wall halfway between the door you entered and the Southern door, on the left hand side. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 5 1) Deck A Lounge, behind the second row of wine bottles. 2) Aft Deck, lower level, top left corner of the area, look up. 3) Deck B Quarters, right staircase, go up to the dead end and turn around. 4) Deck C Quarters, in front of the center staircase, attached to the top of the door frame on the left. 5) Deck D Quarters, in the room on the right, under the sleeping soldier. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 7 1) Strut B, inside the right transformer room, attached under the top transformer. Go to the lower level and spray toward the catwalk. 2) BC Bridge, outside Strut B, on top of the doorway. 3) Strut C, men's room, on the wall on top of the left toilet. 4) CD Bridge, Strut C side, on the left hand side where the board railing turns into bar railing, attached to the edge of the board railing on the outside. 5) CD Bridge, Strut C side, go down to the bottom of the stairs, look left toward the bottom of the upper catwalk. 6) Strut D, lower level, from the bottom left corner of the area, look Southward. 7) Strut D, lower level, at the bottom right door, look up. --- Bomb Disposal Mode - Pliskin All of Pliskin's bombs will explode if you get closer than 2M from the bomb, so spray them from a distance. Level 1 Time Limit - 7:00 Bombs - 2 1) Bottom right of map, lower level where 2 soldiers are, look up at the right wall. 2) Attached to the right side of the cold drink machine. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 2 1) Right wall of the area with the Raven figure, on top of the row of machines. 2) Left side building, middle level, right in front of the bridge connecting the left building with the center island. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Stomach, attached to the light atop the torture machine. 2) Jejunum, on top of the bottom right staircase. You can't get to it from the bottom right, you have to go up the top left staircase and reach to the bomb from the upper level walkway. 3) Ascending Colon, under the ration. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 4 1) Deck A Lounge, bottom left corner of the big glass, on the other side. 2) Deck A Quarters, top side of the center lockers. 3) Deck C Quarters, right room, in the duct at the top left corner of that room. 4) Deck D Quarters, dining area, attached to the back of the top left chair. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 5 1) Strut B, in the middle locker, shoot down the locker door to reveal the bomb. 2) BC Bridge, outside of Strut B, to the left side of the bridge. 3) Strut C, dining area, top table, on the bottom left chair. 4) CD Bridge, attached on the bottom of the Strut D side staircase. Get to it from the Strut C side lower level, be careful of 2 trap floors. 5) Strut D, under the platform of the Shell 1 Shell 2 door. --- Bomb Disposal Mode - Tuxedo Snake All of Tuxedo Snake's bombs will explode if you get closer than 2M from the bomb, so spray them from a distance. Level 1 Time Limit - 7:00 Bombs - 2 1) President's room, attached to the right side of the destroyed electric floor device at the top right corner of the room. 2) Bottom right of map, lower level where the 2 soldiers are, inside the left duct. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 2 1) Right building, lower level, under the Northern end of the walkway. Spray the bomb from the center island. 2) Left building, lower level, area with the big crate, in the alcove at the top left corner of that platform. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Stomach, left torture room, don't go in, stand at the open door and look up. 2) Jejunum, left of the third soldier, attached to the right arm of a Ray. 3) Jejunum, under the big crate at the Northern end of the hall. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 4 1) Deck A Lounge, sofa area, on the right sofa. Spray the bomb from behind the plant. 2) Aft Deck, starboard (right) side, middle level, top right corner. Face the semi-cylindrical machine, look at the floor to the bottom right. 3) Deck B Quarters, left side staircase, under the staircase are 2 oxygen tanks, the bomb is under the one next to the wall. 4) Deck D Quarters, on the wall of the stairs going up to the Bridge. Approach the bomb from the bottom right. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 11 1) Strut B, left hallway, on the wall to the left of the second circuit box. 2) BC Bridge, Strut C side, on the back of the round tank on the right side of the entrance. 3) Strut C, bottom right corner of the row of plants, spray the bomb from the North side. 4~9) CD Bridge, outside Strut C, beside the word "C". 10) Strut D, center island, behind the metal fence, approach from the bottom left walkway. 11) Strut D, center island, attached on the round tank, approach from the top walkway. --- Bomb Disposal Mode - MGS1 Snake Sensor B bombs will explode if you get closer than 2M from the bomb, so spray them from a distance. Sensor A bombs are safe to get close to. Level 1 Time Limit - 7:00 Bombs - 3 1) Sensor B. President's room, crawl into the duct at the bottom left of the room, turn left, the bomb is on the right around the next corner. 2) Sensor B. Room with the cold drink machine, on the back of the soldier in that room. 3) Sensor A. Room with the cold drink machine, under the table. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 3 1) Sensor B. Center island, lower level, North end among the machines. First look for the bomb from the right building lower level to be certain of its exact location. 2) Sensor A. Center island, upper level, at the North end of the row of steam pipes. 3) Sensor B. Left building, middle level, under the staircase going up to the upper level. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Sensor B. Stomach, under the table beside the chair to the top right of the torture machine. 2) Sensor B. Jejunum, 4 crates near the North end of the hall, from the top right crate go to the edge railing, look up and to the right. 3) Sensor B. Ascending Colon, from the door you entered, go North, the bomb is beside the second light. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 4 1) Sensor A. Deck A Lounge, bar area, on the ceiling on top of the ice bucket. 2) Sensor A. Deck B Quarters, on top of the right door to the Lounge that doesn't open. 3) Sensor B. Aft Deck, starboard (right) side, square platform with a crate and a pole on it, the bomb is attached to the North side of the crate. Approach the bomb from the North. 4) Sensor A. Deck D Quarters, right room, inside the box of potatoes on the top shelf. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 8 1) Sensor A. Strut B, behind the two cardboard boxes in front of the lockers. 2) Sensor A. BC Bridge, attached to the bottom of the broken part of the bridge. Stand on the main bridge North of the broken bridge and spray from there. 3) Sensor B. Strut C, on the back of the soldier patrolling the kitchen and dining area. 4) Sensor A. Strut C, kitchen area, inside the top bucket under the center table. 5) Sensor A. CD Bridge, on top of the cypher. 6) Sensor B. Strut D, on the back of the radio contact soldier on the lower level. 7) Sensor B. Strut D, lower level, bottom right corner, on the floor just beyond the railings. 8) Sensor A, Strut D, upper level, bottom right corner, attached to the outside of the board railing. Spray the bomb from the lower level. --- Bomb Disposal Mode - Raiden Level 1 Time Limit - 7:00 Bombs - 2 1) On the crates in front of the HI Bridge door. 2) Top left corner of the president's room, on top of the shelves beside the pipes. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 2 1) On top of the left locker in front of the Raven figure. 2) Center island, left side, on the floor under the middle level stairs. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Stomach, inside the sink beside the toilet. 2) Jejunum, to the right of the second soldier, attached to the bottom of the upper walkway. 3) Ascending Colon, on top of the door you entered. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 5 1&2) Deck A Lounge, on the backs of the 2 sitting soldiers. Sneak up on them from behind and spray the bombs, then immediately hold them up. Deal with them as you please. 3) Deck A Quarters, inside the left bottom locker. 4) Deck B Quarters, bottom area, right side, in the alcove at the bottom left of that passage. 5) Deck D Quarters, dining area, kitchen, attached to the second pan from right. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 5 1) Strut B, in the right transformer room, attached to the roof on the top right of the Northern door. 2) BC Bridge, on the door frame outside Strut C. 3) Strut C, women's room, enter the door and look right. 4) CD Bridge, Strut C side, lower level, on the handrail to the right of the trap floor 5) Strut D, attached to the roof on top of the platform at the North of the room. --- Bomb Disposal Mode - Ninja Raiden Sensor B bombs will explode if you get closer than 2M from the bomb, so spray them from a distance. Sensor A bombs are safe to get close to. Level 1 Time Limit - 7:00 Bombs - 2 1) Sensor B. Bottom right of map, lower level where the 2 soldiers are, inside the right duct on the wall. 2) Sensor B. The president's room, inside the duct directly facing the entrance of the room. Level 2 Time Limit - 10:00 Bombs - 2 1) Sensor B. Right building, lower level, on the left side of the small crate at the side of the platform. Reach it from the center island, lower level. 2) Sensor A. Lower level, attached on the wall at the bottom left of the entire area. Level 3 Time Limit - 15:00 Bombs - 3 1) Sensor B. Stomach, under the torture machine. 2) Sensor B. Jejunum, upper level, right walkway, on top of the hole, attached to the bottom of the head of a Ray. 3) Sensor B. Jejunum, lower level, to the side of the top left staircase. Reach it from above. Level 4 Time Limit - 20:00 Bombs - 5 1) Sensor B. Deck A Lounge, on top of the stairs in the middle of the room. You can't reach it from here, you must go outside and get to the bomb from above. 2) Sensor A. Aft Deck, port (left) side, attached to a pole reachable from the upper level. 3) Sensor B. Deck B Quarters, bottom left of the entire area, attached to the roof, reach the bomb from bottom right. 4) Sensor A. Deck C Quarters, right room, behind the tilted crates. 5) Sensor B. Deck D Quarters, dining area, in the kitchen area, above the stoves at the top left corner. Level 5 Time Limit - 25:00 Bombs - 5 1) Sensor A. Strut B, on the wall among the pipes in between the 2 cameras. 2) Sensor B. BC Bridge, attached to the broken portion of the bridge, on a steel bar sticking out on the right side. 3) Sensor B. Strut C, kitchen area, inside the cardboard box on the counter containing the potatoes. Shoot the box to open it, then spray the bomb that's revealed. 4) Sensor A. CD Bridge, lower level, attached to the bottom of the trap floor on the Strut D side. First step on the trap floor to make it fall, then spray the bomb from the opposite side. 5) Sensor B. Strut D, lower level, under the staircase at the top of the room. You can't reach the lower level through the stairs, you must hang and drop to the lower level, then go up to the bomb. ---------- Elimination Mode The stages here are the same as the Eliminate All stages in VR Missions Sneaking Mode, except here you can be discovered. ---------- Hold Up Mode Hold up all the enemies in the stage. ---------- Photograph Mode - Snake Level 1 Take photograph of one of the posters in one of the lockers. Level 2 Take photograph of the poster on one of the computer screens being operated by a soldier. You can kill the soldier after he accesses the poster to take the photograph leisurely. Level 3 Take photograph of the poster that fits the silhouette in one of the lockers. Level 4 From the top left level of the Engine Room, look toward the opposite top right level. Wait for the right pose and take the photograph. Level 5 Take a photograph of the poster on the wall in the adjacent room. Level 6 Take a photograph of the president through the window. Get a good view of his face and take the photograph. Level 7 Find the right poster and take the photograph according to instructions. --- Photograph Mode - Raiden Level 1 On top of the locker at the right wall. Stand a little distance away from the locker and take the photograph. Level 2 Take a photograph of the soldier jumping up when he sees the book you placed on the floor. You need the soldier at an angle, so place the book as close to the right wall as possible. Level 3 Take a photograph of the ! sign on top of the soldier's head. Shoot a magazine from the magazine stand. When the soldier notices the magazine on the floor, take the photograph. Level 4 Take a photograph of the rotating stars on the head of a fainted soldier. Knock him out and take the photograph. Level 5 He's the one that doesn't appear on the radar. He's right in front of you on the deck below. Hang and drop to the lower level and take the photograph. Level 6 The body is in the second room down the hall. Shoot out the light then quickly equip the camera and get ready to take the photograph. ----------------------------------------- SKATEBOARDING Available initially. Can choose to play as either Snake or Raiden. Snake After game start, destroy the 1st Cypher to the backward right by jump+square(x2). After destroying the 1st Cypher, perform a skill and land. Also jump+square during landing. Continue toward the downhill in the center and slide down. Go down the left side of the connecting bridge, at the corner turn right, be careful of the hole along the way. Grind along the handrail on the way to the 1st Event. To get the 2nd Event, return by the path you came from, be careful of the hole, grind along the way. Return to the connecting bridge, grind on the center pipe and get the 1st Dog Tag. Continue going up the hill and turn left. At the center of the field there, jump+square(x2) to destroy the 2nd Cypher. Continue the path and get the 2nd Dog Tag. To get the next thing uphill, after getting the 2nd Dog Tag, while accelerating, jump onto the rail, then jump again to the other side. Return the way you came, grind along the way, back to the field, grind on the handrail on the left and get the 3rd Dog Tag. Continue the path to get the 3rd Event. Go up the stairs in front of you after getting the 3rd Event to get up to the roof. On the roof, get the 4th Dog Tag, destroy the 3rd Cypher, and get the 4th Event. All missions are cleared. If you have 8000 points and 150 meters of grind distance, you should receive A score.
