METAL GEAR 2 PRODUCTION FACTOIDS |
---|
Kurosu Fuaia |
---|
Many story elements in Metal Gear 2 were inspired by the novel "Crossfire (クロス・ファイア)" by author J.C. Pollock, who was one of Director Kojima Hideo's favorite writers at the time of the game's production. |
In MG2, there is a romantic relationship between American soldier Frank Jaeger and Russian figure skater Natasha Markova. In "Crossfire", there is a similar romantic relationship between an American soldier and a Czechoslovakian ice skater. |
In MG2, printed in the game booklet on page 37 is an operation order sheet explaining Snake's mission, the "Operation Intrude F014". In "Crossfire", there is a similar mission instruction sheet that serves the similar purpose. |
The name of the main character in "Crossfire" is Frank Kessler, which was the inspiration for the names Frank Jaeger and George Kessler in MG2. (In fan translations of the game, ジョージ・ケスラー Jyooji Kesulaa is popularly translated as "George Kasler".) |
Burakku Karaa |
---|
The first enemy boss character's name Black Color (ブラック・カラー) was inspired by author Timothy Zahn's 1986 novel "The Blackcollar", the first of a series of sci-fi novels. In Japanese, the terms "black color" and "blackcollar" are written and pronounced the same way. |
Urutorabokkusu |
---|

Sunatchaa |
---|
During the game, Kessler tells Snake about Big Boss possibly being involved in the "Snatcher Program" and given cybernetic implants by Dr Pettrovich, due to rumors of Big Boss having lost his limbs during the Outer Heaven incident. This is a reference to Director Kojima's previous game スナッチャー Snatcher, released in 1988, in which an unrelated Dr Pettrovich Madnar was the leading scientist of a similar cybernetic "Snatcher Program". |
Urutora Q |
---|
The fictional substance "Pegimin H", listed in the game booklet as a natural resource of Zanzibarland, was named after the fictional drug of the same name from "ウルトラQ Ultra Q". |
Kidou Senshi Gandamu |
---|
The fictional substance "Minovsky Molecules", used in the game to disable Snake's radar during Alert Mode, was named after the fictional electronic wave substance with a similar function called "Minovsky Particles" from "機動戦士ガンダム Mobile Suit Gundam". |
Also worth a mention, the mechanic designer of the Gundam series and the Mobile Police Patlabor (機動警察パトレイバー) series, カトキハジメ Katoki Hajime, is also the mechanic designer of Director Kojima Hideo's 1994 game "Policenauts". |
First Blood |
---|
The design of Colonel Roy Campbell was based on Colonel Samuel Trautman from the movie "Rambo First Blood", played by actor Richard Crenna. Colonel Campbell's radio face portrait, his overall appearance, and his role in the mission were all inspired by Colonel Trautman. |
Platoon |
---|
The desgin of Grey Fox was based on Staff Sergeant Bob Barnes from the movie "Platoon", played by actor Tom Berenger. Grey Fox shares the same facial scars in his radio portrait as Sergeant Barnes. |
