Stealth Camouflage「ステルス迷彩」
A device that bends light and optically blends a subject into the surrounding environment as much as laws of physics allow.
Developed by Arms Tech. Development ended in completed prototypical stages.

Originally commissioned by the government to become tech equipment for the High-Tech Special Force Group FOX HOUND when completed. Because of the occurence of the Shadow Moses Island Incident and the resulting disbandment of FOX HOUND, the commission did not end in the completion and delivery of the device.

In the research facility on Shadow Moses Island were 5 completed prototype devices.
4 were lost, equipped on terrorist soldiers which were killed with the devices turned on.
1 was brought out of Shadow Moses by Arms Tech technician Dr Hal Emmerich, which was later passed on to Solid Snake, who broke the device while sneaking onto the US Ship Discovery.
The stealth camouflage system on the MGS Cyborg Ninja is designed as a part of his exoskeleton, and not as a separate detachable device.
Currently there are no more of the Stealth Camouflage prototype devices left in the world.

Regarding the device's function, it can optically blend human beings together with their clothing.
MGS1 - clothing including bandana and glasses.
MGS2 - clothing not including bandana and sunglasses.
Actual functionality unclear and inconsistent.

If the device works on entire inanimate objects, if equipped on a Metal Gear, the result would be an unstoppable destruction machine.

In the games, to receive the device, submit to Revolver Ocelot's interrogation in MGS1, and recover 50% dog tags in both the Tanker and Plant Chapters in MGS2.
Using the device, stealth and infiltration became a non-issue, and greatly defeats the purpose of the game I think. Fun to play around with, no doubt, but the challenge of the missions are almost completely diminished.

The stealth camouflage doesn't work against the boss characters, however. Maybe they have better eyes, or can see the same residual silhouette the player sees.

In MGS1, the stealth device remains functional even after bumping into enemies.
But in MGS2, the stealth device automatically turns off when bumping into enemies.
Reason unknown.

The fact that Snake can't turn on the stealth camouflage while having the unlimited bandana tied on his head is unreasonable.
