Solid Snake, the main character of the Metal Gear series. The rookie. The hero. The fool. The used. The legend. The liberated. The Solid Snake. We played as him in so many sequels of the series already, and yet he is still over all a man shrouded in mystery. Not enough to say we don't know him at all, but definitely enough to say we don't really know him. I thought I'd discuss a little bit about what we do know about this man. In the early 1970's, out of a secret government project known as the "Les Enfants Terribles" Project 「恐るべき子供達」計画, Solid Snake born out of experimental cloning technology. Born out of the DNA of the legendary soldier Big Boss. Raised by many people, expertise of all kinds. Eventually joined the military, which was what he was bred for. Participated in the Gulf War during his teens, he infiltrated Western Iraq together with the Green Beret. Afterwards joined High-Tech Special Force Group FOX HOUND. 1995, entered Outer Heaven alone. By himself destroyed the military fortress nation. But deeply injured by this mission both in body and heart, he left FOX HOUND. Became an agent of the CIA. But because of disagreeing with the system, he quit it all, and began a life of solitude deep in the inlands of Canada. 1999, brought out of solitary retirement by FOX HOUND Commander in Chief, Colonel Roy Campbell, into active duty to infiltrate and silence the Zanzibarland Uprising. There met again face to face with comrade and friend Grey Fox, chose the mission over personal feelings and killed Grey Fox with his bare hands. Also met face to face again with Big Boss, and chose the mission over personal feelings again and killed Big Boss, who was revealed to him to be his father. Afterwards disappeared deep in Alaska. 2005, Shadow Moses Island Incident. Because of being requisitioned by former commander and friend Roy Campbell, he came once more out of retirement and accepted the mission. During this mission became made aware of the "Les Enfants Terribles" Project and his part in it. Successfully defeated his blood brother Liquid Snake in favor of the mission. Afterwards started his life anew with a refreshed purpose. Together with Dr Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, established Non-Profit Anti-Metal Gear Organization "Philanthropy". Began destruction of Metal Gears all over the world. Because of the world wide hit book "The Truth of Shadow Moses" 「シャドーモセスの真実」 written by journalist Nastasha Romanenko, Solid Snake became popularly known as the "hero". This fame became an eyesore to the Patriots 「愛国者達」, who are the real men controlling the world in the dark under the table behind the curtains. A secret scheme was carried out to kill Solid Snake, aboard the US Ship Discovery. However, Solid Snake did not die. Instead carried out a secret scheme of his own. In which Otacon stole the body of Liquid Snake from a secret facility and buried it in Solid's place, making the world believe the hero Solid Snake did indeed die. Even now, Solid Snake is still in active duty as a member of Philanthropy. In anonymity, which is his identity of choice. Participating in activities he himself believes in. Together with his partner, Otacon, both of friendship and idealogy. Finally, it seems, Solid Snake has chosen to follow his heart. Free will over the mission. Finally, he is happy. A daring womanizer, Snake's pretty much flirted with every single woman he's ever met. Heavy smoker, he's secretly packed cigarettes against regulation in every single mission he's been in. During the mission on Shadow Moses Island, where the pre-mission preparations were done naked, he even smuggled cigarettes with him inside his stomach. Now that's serious nicotine dependency. That's dedication to cigarettes. Has a personal preference to wearing a bandana. Reason unknown. Severely cold environments are his choice for living, places such as inland Canada and Alaska. Fluent in 6 different languages. Has an IQ of 180. Does not share Liquid and Solidus' hatred for the Patriots. This was probably due to his upbringing without knowledge of the "Les Enfants Terribles" project, which could be directly connected to the Patriots. 12.18.2002
